My name is Will Miller I am the founder of PressBeyond. I am an ultra-meticulous hotel curator who loves clean visuals. I have individually analyzed and tiered each hotel included in this guide based on a variety of criteria (architecture & design, location, brand & brand affiliation, existing reviews, and my own personal experiences), and importantly, I have hand-selected the leading imagery for each hotel to provide you with easily-digestible, yet detailed and complete, like-for-like, high-level visual profiles. I felt this summarization step was a critical missing piece across existing guides, blogs, and booking platforms. My aim is to make it easier for people to identify hotel environments that resonate with them, along with enabling them to visualize the types of social experiences that those environments help foster.

When planning a trip to Tulum with a friend shortly after the pandemic as one does, I found myself lost in a spiral attempting to find the optimal hotel. The blogs, Instagram, and TikTok present bits and pieces but nothing gave me the big picture perspective I wanted. What are these hotels actually and do the people reviewing them know what they are doing? I couldn't tell. Not wanting to be deceived by cool Instagram posts showcasing an interesting feature, but then hiding other negative attributes, and not wanting to get lost in endless amounts of cluttered content, I realized that I simply needed to see five useful images to give me a clear answer to the following: what does the exterior looks like, what do the rooms look like (two images here since this is where you live), what does the restaurant looks like, and what does the swimming pool looks like? A quick check on location and Tripadvisor reviews and I don't need anything else to make an informed decision (other than price obviously). Strangely nothing was organized this way, so either something was wrong with me, or something was wrong with the system (probably both). This was such a painful experience for me that I felt called upon to ensure no one else experiences such a thing ever again. Though a much larger undertaking than originally expected with a trip to the hospital and a few other scares (turns out the human brain isn't designed to manually choose images for thousands of hotels – an unexpected learning about metabolic imbalances that are produced when using the brain a certain way), the objective was ultimately completed.
